13,000ft above (Entry #4)
Are you a thrill seeker? Do you have an interest in doing death-defying activities? Do you want to feel like your life has changed in just a matter of 7ish minutes? Then skydiving might be your next adventure!
Leading up to the day of your skydive you'll be riddled with excitement and nervousness (maybe a little bit of fear, but don't focus on that). The morning of it is recommended to eat a very light breakfast and stick to drinking mainly water...after all you're going to be falling 13,000ft out of the air today. Once you arrive at the facility, you'll be met with welcoming faces full of energy. The staff, especially the instructors, really make you feel safe and comfortable in their hands; like family. You'll watch a safety video, sign your life away on a waiver (I'm kidding...kind of) and then they'll get you harnessed up.
You'll soon be met by a plane that looks like it's held together by duct tape and hope. You'll be wanting to jump out of this plane! Everyone loads up shoulder to shoulder in this crammed space and you embark on the longest 10 minutes of your life, knowing what you're going to have to do once you reach the desired altitude. Talk about nerves!
The moment is finally here. You're strapped to your instructor standing at the edge of the door, staring down to imminent death. He counts to 3...but really 2 to trick you, kicks your legs back, tells you to take a deep breath and jumps. You're traveling at around 120mph towards the ground now, but the fear is gone. The feeling of free falling is the most exhilarating thing you'll ever experience. You'll never feel more alive than in those 60 seconds.
All of a sudden he pulls the cord and the parachute deploys. You're now just gliding through the beautiful sky, right through the clouds. It's peaceful up there, silent, relaxing. There's no hustle and bustle of life, you can hear your own thoughts. For the next 10 minutes, all the stress of the world; your to-do list for the week, the drama in your work space...doesn't matter, you're care-free.
13,000 feet wow that’s insane! I’ve heard about the thrill of skydiving is truly amazing. I would not know what I would be doing when my instructor is counting me down, I would be terrified. I have no idea how you got onto a plane that looks like it was held together by duct tape, but good for you for doing it.
ReplyDeleteSkydiving has been on my bucket list, but something I have also feared and didn't think I'd follow through on achieving. This entry helped me reconsider. 13,000 feet traveling down 120mph for 10 minutes sounded nerve-racking but you providing every detail and how it was still a peaceful experience, changed my mind. Thanks for sharing!
