Empowerment (Entry #8)

 Think of one of the most difficult times in your life. What was the reason you decided to come out stronger on the other side? What was your motivator? The show "Maid" on Netflix is an amazing depiction of perseverance and empowerment.  The series focuses on a single mother who trying to escape the never ending cycle of abuse and addiction. The main character, Alex, grew up in a broken home with an addicted, mostly absent mother and no father. She then had a baby at a young age with a man who is an abusive alcoholic. The show shows the trials and tribulations Alex goes through in order to give her daughter a better life than the one she had. From living in domestic violence shelters, to depicting the weakness of going back to her daughter's dad, to finally breaking the cycle and being in a position of being able to move states and go to college. "Maid" is the show to watch if you're looking for a drama series that will definitely incite every emotion possib...

Food (Entry #EC)

 "Food, Inc." is another documentary type movie that delves into the world of the food industry. This film focuses more on the profit margins of the industry, which is a big reason why farmers choose to use tactics that could potentially cause harm to humans. This film outlines the consequences of the industry being driven by profit, even if it's unethical and inhumane. It shows the conditions the animals live in while being raised to be eaten, it portrays the GMOs used in the animals and the effects they have on the animals and it outlines the negative health effects these choices have on humans who ingest the meat from these animals. It also dives into the eco side of the issue and the ecological footprint these choices have.  The documentary calls its audience to make an educated decision on the food we choose to ingest. 

Fresh (Entry #7)

 Have you ever thought about what happens to your food before it's on the plate in front of you? The hormones and antibiotics injected into the animals? The pesticides sprayed on the crops? The movie "Fresh" might be a movie worth checking out!  "Fresh" is targeted towards an audience that is interested in learning about how the majority of farms are ran. It gives examples of the hormones and antibiotics used in food animals in order induce growth and keep infections away. The movie shows examples of the farms that use these tactics and the conditions the animals are kept in. Many of these hormones/antibiotics have negative health effects on humans. In addition, many crop farmers use pesticides to keep pests away, but these pesticides are also dangerous for human health.  After giving examples of the farms that use these tactics, they show examples of farms who do not and how their food and crops turn out.
